2 Singapore traffic police officers hospitalized after patrol car fire

Two Singapore Traffic Police officers were taken to Singapore General Hospital after their patrol vehicle caught fire on the Bukit Timah Expressway early Aug. 21. Police said the officers were patrolling near the slip road into the Seletar Expressway, in the direction of Woodlands, at about 12:10 a.m. when they saw smoke coming from the engine compartment and got out. The two officers and a member of the public tried to put out the fire, but the Singapore Civil Defence Force later extinguished it with a water jet. Both officers were conscious when taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
