2 passenger trains collide near Bedford, 1 killed

Nearly 90 people were injured and 11 are in very serious condition as investigators work to determine the cause.

Two East Midlands Railway passenger trains collided on the same track near Bedford, about 90 kilometers north of London, on Friday afternoon local time. At least one person was killed at the scene, while dozens of other passengers were injured. East of England Ambulance Service said nearly 90 people were hurt, including 11 in very serious condition. Video from the scene showed the front of one train striking the rear of another. The cause of the collision is not yet known. The British Rail Accident Investigation Branch said its team of inspectors was already at the scene gathering initial evidence from the incident.
