Two men smashed a display case at Vienna's Museum of Applied Arts during opening hours and stole a platinum necklace set with 673 diamonds worth more than $4 million, prompting an international manhunt. The piece was created by Van Cleef & Arpels for the 1939 wedding of Princess Fawzia of Egypt and Iran's Crown Prince Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Police said the suspects bought tickets to enter the exhibition, then fled toward Vienna Stadtpark on foot. Museum director Lilli Hollein said no one was hurt and the exhibition reopened without the stolen necklace. The theft adds to a run of high-profile museum robberies across Europe that have raised fresh questions about security.
