2 Malaysians honored after tip helped recover stolen Singapore boat
What's new: The craft was found in Malaysian waters on June 2 and returned with help from Malaysia's marine police.
Two Malaysian men received Singapore's SaferSG Public Spiritedness Award after their tip helped police recover a stolen Singapore-registered pleasure craft. The award ceremony was held June 16 at sea off northern Pulau Ubin. Police said fisherman Muhammad Azrie Manab spotted the boat moored in Malaysian waters on June 2 and grew suspicious because Singapore-registered vessels are uncommon there. He sent a photo to his cousin, Khairil Faizal Othman, who alerted a Police Coast Guard patrol boat. With assistance from the Royal Malaysia Police's Marine Police Force, officers recovered the craft and returned it to its owner. The theft investigation is continuing.
