2 held after theft of England World Cup gear en route to Kansas City
What's new: Police said the stolen items were recovered, and reports said none were essential for England's opener against Croatia.
Two people were taken into custody after equipment belonging to England's national soccer team was stolen during transport from Florida to Kansas City ahead of the World Cup, authorities said. Kansas City police said the theft happened sometime Friday night as team vehicles traveled to the squad's base at Swope Soccer Village. Mayor Quinton Lucas said local, state and federal officials were working to determine where in the United States the items were taken and who was involved. Reports said footwear was among the missing gear, but the loss was not expected to affect England's opening match against Croatia on Wednesday near Dallas.
