2 Binance employees detained in UAE during fraud inquiries

What's new: The exchange said workers were stopped at airports, questioned over third-party fund flows and later released.

Two Binance employees were detained in the United Arab Emirates in recent weeks as police examined possible financial crimes tied to activity on the crypto exchange, according to people familiar with the matter. One worker was stopped while traveling through Sharjah in August, taken to a police station and held overnight, while a third Binance official in Dubai was questioned in July. Binance said a small number of staff gave statements in routine inquiries linked to third-party fund flows and were cleared and released. The episode adds to legal pressure on Binance, which in 2023 pleaded guilty in the United States to anti-money-laundering violations and paid $4.3 billion to settle the case.
