2,901 personnel guard student protest on Prabowo-Gibran anniversary in Semarang
About 2,000 students remained into the evening, refusing to disperse after police limited the protest to 18:20 WIB.
A total of 2,901 joint personnel were deployed to secure a student protest in front of the Central Java Governor's Office in Semarang on Thursday (22/10). The rally marked the second anniversary of the Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka administration. The crowd, estimated at about 2,000 people, gathered from around 16:30 WIB, then moved from the governor's office to Tugu Tunas, or the Fountain Roundabout on Jalan Pahlawan, voicing criticism and demands. When the crowd tried to head to Lapangan Pancasila Simpang Lima, police blocked the way with riot barriers. Police also prepared traffic diversions. Central Java Police Chief Roy Hardi Siahaan met the crowd around 18:30 and warned of the risk that others could exploit the protest.
