11 roller coasters closed after fatal fall at Six Flags Georgia

What's new: Parks in Florida and Canada joined the shutdowns as police and Georgia regulators investigate the Goliath ride.

A fatal fall from the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia has prompted wider ride closures across North America. Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, a 42-year-old Atlanta school employee, died after witnesses said he was ejected from the coaster Monday and fell beneath the attraction. Cobb County police and the Georgia office that enforces amusement park safety rules are investigating. By Thursday, 11 roller coasters had been taken out of service, including Sea World Orlando's Mako and La Ronde's Goliath in Montreal. Nine of the rides share the same manufacturer, Bolliger & Mabillard, and a similar restraint system. Witnesses and riders earlier that day described concerns about restraints on Goliath.
