10 DAMRI buses burn in Bandung, 13 homes affected

Police recorded one resident with shortness of breath; the fire source at the Kebon Kawung depot remains under investigation.

A fire destroyed 10 inactive buses owned by Perum DAMRI at the depot on Jalan Kebon Kawung, Kelurahan Pasirkaliki, Kecamatan Cicendo, Bandung City, on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 8. Police also recorded 13 homes affected and one resident who suffered shortness of breath and was treated by an ambulance. Fire crews received the report at about 16.27 WIB and were still dousing hotspots after 18.21 WIB. Initial accounts differed: DAMRI initially suspected the fire spread from a resident's house bordering the parking area, while Cicendo Police Chief AKP Darno said the initial suspected origin was in the bus area. All of the burned vehicles were said to have been out of service for more than a year. Residents also heard two explosions believed to have come from gas cylinders in the nearby neighborhood.
