1 dead, 2 missing after 19-person boat capsizes near Alcatraz

What's new: Rescue crews used 11 vessels, divers and swimmers after the triple-deck pontoon sank in San Francisco Bay.

One person died and two others were missing after a triple-deck pontoon boat carrying 19 people capsized near Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay on July 14, authorities said. Thirteen people reached shore safely and three others were taken to a hospital, according to San Francisco Fire Chief Dean Crispen. The first rescue boat found one badly injured passenger, who later died despite CPR. The San Francisco Fire Department said it first received a report of a fire around 3:30 p.m. local time, but officials later said they had found no evidence of a fire on board. The US Coast Guard joined local agencies in a search that included 11 vessels, rescue swimmers and scuba divers. The cause remained under investigation.
