1,100 tech workers press US to back global AI safety effort

More than 1,100 employees from major tech companies urged the US government to support an international effort to build technical and governance tools to slow advanced AI development when needed. The initiative, called Pacing the Frontier, includes workers from Meta Platforms, Anthropic, OpenAI and Alphabet's Google, backed by nonprofits Guidelight AI Standards and Encode AI. Signatories include Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Meta vice president of AI research Dawn Song and OpenAI chief scientist Jakub Pachocki. The appeal comes as AI companies pursue more capable models and safety concerns mount that oversight may not keep pace.
