York Hotel kitchen fire in Singapore sends 1 guest to hospital

A fire in a second-floor kitchen at York Hotel Singapore led to an early-morning evacuation and sent one guest to Tan Tock Seng Hospital after the person injured an ankle during the evacuation. The Singapore Civil Defence Force was alerted to the fire at 21 Mount Elizabeth at about 4am and put it out with a fire extinguisher. York Hotel said the blaze was confined to a food preparation area inside a tenant-run Chinese restaurant in the Tower Block and that the area was unoccupied. Guests were allowed back to their rooms after safety checks, between 5.30am and 6.15am. The affected area remains closed, and restaurant operations have been suspended while authorities investigate the cause.
