Wisconsin tornado damages homes, cuts power to 30,000

A tornado tore through parts of Wisconsin on Monday, damaging homes and businesses, toppling trees and knocking out electricity to more than 30,000 customers. The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado by radar in Winnebago County, northwest of Milwaukee, with damage reported in Appleton, Menasha and surrounding communities in the Fox Cities region. Officials said they had no confirmed fatalities or injuries as emergency crews continued searching affected areas. Images from Appleton showed roofs and siding ripped away, roads strewn with debris and at least one vehicle overturned. The storm moved over Lake Winnebago toward Fond du Lac County after a tornado warning was issued just before noon.
