Wisconsin Democratic governor primary was too close to call

Wisconsin Democrats ended Tuesday night without a clear winner in their high-profile primary for governor, with Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley holding a lead of only a few hundred votes over state Rep. Francesca Hong after about 80% of ballots were counted. The contest has become an early test of how far Democratic voters in a battleground state want to move left before the 2026 midterms. Hong, a democratic socialist, ran on priorities including higher taxes on billionaires and corporations and abolishing ICE. Crowley reentered the race in July with outgoing Gov. Tony Evers' endorsement. The winner is expected to face Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany, who has President Donald Trump's backing and a much larger campaign fund.
