White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt to leave at end of August

What's next: Trump did not name a successor, leaving a key West Wing messaging post open ahead of the November midterms.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt will step down at the end of August, ending a tenure that began in January 2025 and made her, at 27, the youngest person to hold the job. President Donald Trump said Leavitt will remain one of his outside advisers after leaving the post. Leavitt said she made the decision after returning to the White House following the May 1 birth of her second child, saying she could not give both her children and the demanding role the time and attention they deserved. Trump did not identify a replacement or give a timeline for naming one as the administration heads into a politically fraught fall and the November midterm elections.
