White House gives Politico 48 hours to retract Susie Wiles report

What's next: The administration said it could pursue legal action if Politico does not issue retractions and apologies.

The White House has demanded that Politico retract and correct reporting about chief of staff Susie Wiles, giving the outlet 48 hours to comply or face possible legal action. In a letter to Politico editor-in-chief Jonathan Greenberger, White House counsel William Scharf called three articles about Wiles "demonstrably false and defamatory." The dispute centers on Politico's report that President Donald Trump was considering removing Wiles and had a "freak-out" after publication. Fox News reported that Politico issued a correction and reviewed multiple stories after receiving the letter. Scharf also sought apologies to Trump and Wiles and said the administration would consider available legal remedies if the outlet refused.
