West Java civil servants logged online gambling up to Rp800 million a year

West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan disclosed PPATK findings that civil servants in the West Java provincial administration were involved in online gambling, with transactions reaching about Rp800 million in a year. Erwan said total transactions involving ASN at the provincial and regency/city levels in West Java had reached tens of billions of rupiah a year and were still rising. The West Java provincial government did not reveal the identities of the ASN, but will follow up with gradual counseling by the Inspektorat, including summoning the ASN concerned, regional agency heads, and regional leaders to tighten oversight. During a visit by the Ombudsman RI at Gedung Sate in Bandung, Erwan also highlighted the link between online gambling and online lending. Ombudsman RI member Maneger Nasution said the practice was not only illegal but also violated civil service ethics and could trigger maladministration.
