Way Kambas fire extinguished, 250 personnel deployed

The blaze at Resor Kuala Penet was put out around 19:00 WIB, and Sumatran elephants at the natural habitat and conservation center were reported safe.

The forest fire at Resor Kuala Penet in Way Kambas National Park, East Lampung, was extinguished on Saturday (22/8) at around 19:00 WIB after firefighting efforts that began Friday afternoon. The Ministry of Forestry said about 250 joint personnel were deployed in the operation. Fire suppression was hampered by difficult access, distant water sources, and the peatland terrain, forcing some crews to walk to the fire points. Earlier, the head of the Way Kambas National Park office, MHD Zaidi, said joint teams from TNWK, TNI, Polri, local government, partners, and residents worked to keep the fire from spreading. The ministry also reported that Sumatran elephants in their natural habitat and at the Elephant Conservation Center were far from the fire and were not directly affected.
