Pelalawan resident attacked by sun bear, BBKSDA sets trap cage
The victim is being treated at RS Selasih Pangkalan Kerinci after losing a lot of blood and briefly fainting.
A resident of Pangkalan Gondai village, Langgam district, Pelalawan regency, Riau, was attacked by a sun bear while in his plantation. The animal attacked from behind and fled after the victim fought back. The victim was injured, lost a lot of blood after reaching home, then fainted and was taken by family members to RS Selasih Pangkalan Kerinci. BBKSDA Riau deployed a Wildlife Rescue Unit team from Pekanbaru to the site and installed one trap cage on Thursday (6/8) with the village government and local officers. BBKSDA Riau head Supartono said the step is used to monitor the bear's presence and as mitigation if the animal again approaches an area that endangers residents. The sun bear is a protected species, so the response is aimed at protecting residents while preserving wildlife.
