Wamenko Pangan pushes for milk to be required in MBG

Hanif said Indonesia's milk consumption is only 16.2-16.8 liters per capita a year, about one spoonful daily.

Deputy Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Hanif Faisol Nurofiq is pushing for milk to become a required component in the Free Nutritious Meals program, or MBG, to improve children's nutrient intake. At Nusantara Milk Day 2026 in Jakarta on Sunday (14/6), Hanif said MBG offers a strategic opening to build the habit of drinking milk, ideally every day rather than only twice a week. He said national milk consumption remains low at 16.2 to 16.8 liters per capita per year, or about one tablespoon per person per day. Hanif said the figure lags behind several ASEAN countries, including Vietnam, Singapore and Malaysia. The government is also preparing a roadmap for milk self-sufficiency from upstream to downstream to strengthen domestic production and added value in the dairy sector.
