The USS George Washington is moving toward the Middle East to relieve the USS Abraham Lincoln, whose unusually long deployment during the U.S. war with Iran has drawn scrutiny over shortages and crew strain. NPR reported the George Washington left Da Nang, Vietnam, last week and was later tracked through the Singapore Strait and Strait of Malacca, putting it on course for the Indian Ocean. The Lincoln has spent more than 260 consecutive days at sea. The Navy said combat conditions disrupted traditional supply hubs, leading to shortages and delayed mail, while lawmakers pressed the Pentagon over reports of moldy showers, broken toilets, limited hot water and burnout among sailors.
