US strike on Pacific drug boat kills 1, leaves 2 survivors

What's new: The death toll from the administration's boat-strike campaign has reached at least 208 since September.

The U.S. military struck a vessel in the eastern Pacific on Tuesday, killing one man and leaving two survivors in the latest attack on boats the Trump administration links to drug trafficking. U.S. Southern Command said the vessel was traveling along known smuggling routes and was operated by what it called designated terrorist organizations, but it did not name the groups or provide evidence for the claim. The command said it alerted the U.S. Coast Guard to begin search-and-rescue operations. The strike adds to a campaign that has killed more than 200 people since September and drawn criticism from legal scholars, lawmakers and rights groups, which argue the attacks amount to unlawful extrajudicial killings.
