US senators seek Pentagon probe into Starlink limits in Ukraine
What's new: Lawmakers said the disruptions may have endangered Ukrainians and U.S. personnel during Russian air raids.
A bipartisan group of nine U.S. senators asked the Pentagon inspector general to investigate disruptions to Starlink and Starshield service used by Ukraine’s military, escalating scrutiny of a system critical to Kyiv’s war effort. In a letter to the Defense Department watchdog, the senators said speed limits and partial outages may have had “potentially deadly consequences” for Ukrainians and for U.S. diplomatic, military and security personnel. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said the restrictions hindered drones and other operations, while President Donald Trump denied ordering any slowdown. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent later warned Zelenskyy against publicly blaming Washington. The senators said it remains unclear whether Pentagon actions or contractor decisions contributed to the limits.
