US seized 3 domains tied to Chinese hacking of NASA, NIH and Fed

What's new: Court papers link the group known as QTFY to intrusions at Energy Department labs in 2024 and attempted access to NASA in 2019.

The Justice Department and FBI moved to disrupt a Chinese government-backed hacking group after investigators tied it to years of attacks on U.S. agencies, hospitals, telecom providers, power companies and defense contractors. Federal prosecutors seized three internet domains linked to Nanjing Xinjiuwei Network Technology Company, which court papers identify as infrastructure used by the group known as QTFY. An affidavit unsealed in federal court in California says the hackers targeted hundreds of entities, including NASA, the National Institutes of Health, the Justice Department, the Department of Energy, the U.S. Senate and the Federal Reserve. Prosecutors said QTFY also broke into three Energy Department laboratories, NIH and an HHS agency in September 2024.
