US military renamed Joint Base Charleston for Lindsey Graham

What's new: The South Carolina installation now carries the late senator's name after he died on July 11.

The Defense Department renamed Joint Base Charleston in South Carolina for the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, giving the installation the new name Joint Base Lindsey Graham. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth spoke at a Monday ceremony marking the change. Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, died suddenly on July 11. He had served for more than 30 years in the Air Force, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard as a lawyer, retiring with the rank of colonel. The base itself was formed in 2010 through the merger of a Navy base and an Air Force base, both originally established in 1941.
