The new duties hit items ranging from hockey sticks to wine, according to senior Trump administration officials cited by ABC News. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney responded by suspending talks and pledging retaliation on roughly $28 billion of US goods, with Canada's tariffs set to begin Sept. 8. Carney said American negotiators made last-minute changes and demands that would have damaged Canada's auto sector and key industries, while US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer accused Canada of backing away from terms discussed earlier in the week.
