US exchange student jailed 20 weeks for stalking teens, hacking Telegram

What's new: The Singapore court case included at least 1,000 calls to one victim and paid access to private chats.

A Singapore court sentenced Kevin Gao, a 23-year-old American exchange student, to 20 weeks in jail after he stalked two former friends and arranged unauthorized access to two teenagers’ Telegram accounts. Gao met the three girls online through Discord and Roblox, and the victims were 17 at the time. Court details showed he went repeatedly to one girl’s neighborhood after she cut off contact, then later sought hacking services to read private chats about why the friendships ended. He also tried to call a third victim at least 1,000 times. Gao was in Singapore for an exchange program at Nanyang Technological University and is expected to be deported after serving his sentence.
