US downs 2 Iranian drones near Hormuz as war hits 100 days

What's new: Pakistan carried messages to Tehran as ceasefire efforts stalled and Gulf allies faced fresh fallout from Iranian strikes.

The United States said it shot down two Iranian drones that threatened shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, the latest flare-up as the conflict reached its 100th day on June 7. US Central Command also said it struck four other drones and coastal radar sites hours earlier. The violence came after Iran fired missiles on June 6 at Bahrain and Kuwait, straining a ceasefire agreed on April 8. Pakistan's interior minister, Mohsin Naqvi, arrived in Tehran with a letter from army chief Syed Asim Munir and a message from the prime minister as mediation continued. Iran's foreign ministry condemned the US action, while a senior adviser to the supreme leader said talks with Washington were deadlocked.
