US death toll in Iran conflict hits 17 after Iraq drone blast
What's new: Centcom reported another service member killed in Iraq and said remains found after the Jordan base strike are still being identified.
The US death toll in the conflict with Iran rose to 17 after a service member was killed Saturday in northern Iraq during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian attack drone, US Central Command said. The update came a day after an attack on a base in Jordan killed two US soldiers and left another missing. Centcom said search teams at the Jordan site found unidentified remains and that the identification process was continuing. The latest casualty came as Washington and Tehran traded strikes for an eighth straight day, with fighting spreading across Jordan, Iraq and Iran and drawing in shipping and air defense concerns across the region.
