A multistate cyclospora outbreak in the US has sickened more than 8,100 people in Michigan alone as health officials investigate recalled iceberg lettuce linked to central Mexico. The CDC said consumers should not eat recalled Taylor Farms iceberg lettuce from that region, while the FDA said a weekend report that the product tested positive for cyclospora was a false positive. The outbreak has spread across nine states, with Michigan the hardest hit. Cyclosporiasis is caused by ingesting the cyclospora parasite and can bring severe diarrhea, cramps and symptoms that may take weeks to appear, complicating efforts to trace the source.
