US clears possible $4.5 billion sale of 4 KC-46A tankers to Qatar

The United States cleared a potential $4.5 billion sale of Boeing KC-46A aerial refueling aircraft and related equipment to Qatar, according to a State Department notice issued Thursday. Qatar asked to buy up to four KC-46A tankers, eight PW4062 turbofan engines including four spares, radar warning receivers, infrared countermeasure systems and support services. The notice said Qatar should be able to absorb the aircraft and equipment into its armed forces without difficulty. It also said the proposed sale would not alter the basic military balance in the region.
