Chris Fall resigned as director of the Center for AI Standards and Innovation, leaving the US government’s AI safety office just three months after the Trump administration chose him for the job. The Commerce Department told CNBC that Arvind Raman, who leads the National Institute of Standards and Technology, will serve as acting director while continuing to oversee NIST. CAISI is part of Commerce and works on testing and collaborative research around commercial AI systems. The departure comes as the administration pushes a June executive order that asks developers to submit models for government review and gives federal agencies 60 days to build an evaluation framework.
