Uruguay held by Arab Saudi 1-1 as Araujo scores at 80th

Arab Saudi earned a valuable point in Group H after taking a 41st-minute lead through Abdulelah Al-Amri.

Uruguay failed to open the 2026 World Cup with a victory after being held 1-1 by Arab Saudi in a Group H match at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, the United States, on Tuesday WIB. Arab Saudi went ahead in the 41st minute when Abdulelah Al-Amri turned in a loose ball from a corner kick in front of Fernando Muslera's goal. Uruguay, who controlled more of the ball, increased the pressure after the break through Federico Valverde, Rodrigo Bentancur and Manuel Ugarte. In the 60th minute, Ugarte's shot hit the post. Uruguay did not equalize until the 80th minute, when Mohammed Al-Owais parried the ball and Maximiliano Araujo pounced on the rebound. Marcelo Bielsa's team kept pressing, but Arab Saudi stayed disciplined in defense until the match ended level.
