UN rapporteur urges Indonesia to cut economic ties over Gaza
Francesca Albanese cites the ICJ view that trade, research and cooperation that legitimize the occupation should end.
The UN Special Rapporteur for the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Francesca Albanese, urged Indonesia to review all economic ties directly or indirectly linked to Israel's war and occupation in Gaza. At a news conference in Jakarta on Wednesday night, she said ties found to support or legitimize the occupation should be cut. Albanese cited a legal opinion from the International Court of Justice saying states must not recognize the legal consequences of unlawful acts, including occupation of territory. She said trade, cooperation, university exchanges, research programs and purchases that legitimize the occupation must therefore be stopped. She also said Israel must be held accountable for the occupation.
