Ukraine struck Russian airfield, rocket center 560 miles from border

What's new: Kyiv said the Samara site supports the Rassvet satellite network, a Russian alternative to Starlink.

Ukraine said it hit a Russian military airfield in the Nizhny Novgorod region and the Progress rocket and space center in Samara, pushing its long-range campaign deeper into Russia. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Flamingo cruise missiles were used in the strike on the rocket facility, about 560 miles from Ukraine's border. Ukraine's General Staff said both targets were hit directly and fires broke out. It said the Samara plant makes rockets used to launch satellites for the Rassvet broadband network, which Moscow is building as a domestic rival to Starlink. Samara officials said air defenses repelled a massive missile attack but acknowledged localized damage to industrial infrastructure. There was no Russian confirmation of the reported airfield strike.
