Ukraine hits Ryazan refinery as 3-day energy truce breaks down

What's new: The strike hit a Rosneft plant that handles nearly 5% of Russia's oil refining and supplies fuel to Moscow.

Ukrainian drones struck Russia's Ryazan region early Thursday, starting a fire at the Ryazan oil refinery hours after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv would resume attacks on Russian energy targets. Regional governor Pavel Malkov said emergency crews were working at the site and that another warehouse was also damaged. He earlier canceled classes in schools and kindergartens in two districts because of what he described as mass drone attacks. The refinery, owned by Rosneft, lies about 300 kilometers southeast of Moscow, feeds the capital with fuel and accounts for almost 5% of Russia's total refining throughput. Zelenskyy told the Financial Times that Ukraine had paused energy strikes for three days in line with U.S. wishes but was ending the halt because Russia kept attacking Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
