Ukraine drone strike halted Russia’s biggest Omsk oil refinery

Why it matters: The plant processed about 22 million tons of oil in 2024, and the outage could worsen fuel shortages in Russia.

A Ukrainian drone strike halted operations at the Omsk oil refinery, Russia’s largest, after a fire damaged key processing units at the Siberian plant, source reports and local officials showed Monday. Ukraine’s military said the attack hit a facility about 2,500 kilometers from Ukrainian territory, underscoring Kyiv’s growing long-range strike reach. Two industry sources said the refinery stopped processing after damage to CDU-10, which accounts for about 38% of capacity, while CDU-11 was also halted after essential links were hit. The Gazprom Neft-owned plant processed 22 million tons of oil in 2024 and is Russia’s top petrol producer.
