Ukraine claims Russia's oil output falls to 9 million bpd

Kyiv says 16 refineries and fuel terminals were hit, idling more than 30% of Russia's refining capacity through June.

Ukraine said Russia's oil production fell to its lowest level this year, 9,009 million barrels per day, after attacks on Russian energy infrastructure. In a statement on Telegram on Tuesday (16/6), Ukraine's General Staff said its forces struck 16 Russian oil refineries and major fuel terminals. Under that claim, more than 30 percent of Russia's refining capacity was out of operation through June and 40 technology installations were also shut down. Ukraine also said international sanctions were slowing repairs to damaged facilities. Kyiv said Russia then restricted fuel exports, limited gasoline sales in several regions and faced shortages of aviation fuel at major airports. Russia has not commented on the claims, and independent verification remains difficult during the war.
