UK tribunal clears £3 billion Apple iCloud lawsuit for 40 million users

What's next: A trial is expected in 2028, with potential payouts of up to £77 for eligible iCloud users if the claim wins.

Britain’s Competition Appeal Tribunal has cleared a £3 billion collective lawsuit against Apple over its iCloud storage service, allowing consumer group Which? to represent nearly 40 million UK users. The claim, filed in November 2024, argues Apple used its position in the iPhone ecosystem to steer customers into iCloud and make it harder to use rival cloud providers. Which? alleges Apple tied storage functions to iOS devices, limited how some files could be stored and used system prompts to push users toward its own service. Apple has rejected the claims as unfounded, saying customers were not required to use iCloud and that alternatives were available. The case covers users from November 2018 through June 2026.
