UK minister rebukes JD Vance over post on teen's murder
Why it matters: The dispute added to tensions after unrest in Southampton and warnings against inflaming divisions over the case.
Britain's deputy prime minister David Lammy said he told U.S. Vice President JD Vance that he was wrong to link immigration to the killing of 18-year-old Henry Nowak in Southampton. Lammy said he challenged Vance in a phone call after Vance wrote on X that the case should fuel "righteous anger" over migration. Lammy said the convicted killer, Vickrum Digwa, was British and that the case had "nothing to do with mass migration." Digwa, 23, was sentenced this week to life in prison with a minimum term of 21 years. The row comes after clashes in Southampton during a demonstration over the killing and as the Independent Office for Police Conduct investigates officers' actions at the scene.
