UK charges 2 men over Iran-linked incident at RAF Fairford
What's new: Counterterrorism police said five or six other suspects remain on bail as the investigation into the September base breach continues.
British prosecutors charged two 24-year-old men under the National Security Act over a September security incident at RAF Fairford, the air base in western England used by US bombers during strikes on Iran. Mohmed Abdulkarim was charged with conduct likely to materially assist a foreign intelligence service between Aug. 31 and Sept. 28, and police said they believe that service was Iran. Nouman Essghir was charged with entering a prohibited place for a purpose prejudicial to the UK on Aug. 22. The case drew attention after five men were arrested outside the base on Sept. 27 and US bombers were later withdrawn on security grounds. The men appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London.
