UI pushes sustainable smart cities at GSDC 2026 forum in BSD

UI said smart cities must rest not only on technology, but also on governance, climate resilience and social equity.

Universitas Indonesia promoted a sustainable smart city development agenda at the Times Higher Education Global Sustainable Development Congress 2026 at ICE BSD, Tangerang, Banten, 22-25 Juni 2026. In the session “Smart Cities for a Sustainable Tomorrow” on 23 Juni, Vice Rector UI Ahmad Gamal highlighted the use of artificial intelligence and real-time data for urban planning and for strengthening infrastructure against climate risks. He said challenges such as flooding, spatial inequality, housing affordability, environmental degradation and weak interagency coordination are more tied to the governance of urban growth than to a lack of data. UI also used the forum to offer international partnerships and showcase green innovations from its academic community.
