UEFA said European teams could still boycott competitions including the World Cup after England's Football Association withdrew support for FIFA president Gianni Infantino. The standoff follows FIFA's abandoned plan to sell stakes in its top tournaments, including the men's and women's World Cups, to private investors through a subsidiary called FIFA Forward Enterprise.
UEFA said pulling the proposal was not enough and demanded guarantees that similar moves would not be attempted again. It has said it no longer has confidence in Infantino's leadership. At the same time, the Confederation of African Football and CONMEBOL backed him, along with the football associations of Mexico and Argentina, underscoring a split across world football.
