UEFA keeps FIFA boycott threat as backing for Infantino fractures

UEFA kept alive its threat to boycott FIFA competitions, saying support voiced inside FIFA for President Gianni Infantino did not restore confidence after his aborted plan to sell private stakes in World Cup-related rights. European soccer's governing body said its conditions had not been met: the proposal had to be withdrawn and FIFA had to guarantee such a move would not be tried again. The dispute now hangs over the Under-20 Women's World Cup, which opens in Poland on Sept. 5. The English FA has withdrawn support for Infantino, while Jordan FA President Ali Al Hussein said he and his association would not back him in the next FIFA presidential election. CONMEBOL and the Confederation of African Football were among bodies backing Infantino.
