U.S. midterms on November 3 could shape Trump's room to maneuver

The races for 435 House seats, 35 Senate seats and 39 governorships come as Trump’s public support slips in polls.

The United States will hold midterm elections on November 3 to choose 435 members of the House of Representatives, 35 of 100 senators and 39 state governors. The results will determine the balance of power in Washington and how freely President Donald Trump can carry out his second-term agenda. Several polls put the Democratic Party in position to win a House majority, while the Senate contests are closer. Reuters/Ipsos found Trump’s approval rating at 32 percent, while an NBC News poll showed 52 percent of voters want the House controlled by Democrats. If Democrats win, they could tighten oversight of the Trump administration, advance their own legislative agenda and pressure tariff policy and military moves against Iran.
