Tyrone Mings urges Indonesian children to enjoy soccer first
He said early pressure to turn pro can hinder development, and that free, low-pressure training helps young players stay the course.
Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings urged Indonesian children who want to become professional footballers to first enjoy the game without being burdened by targets to become top players at a young age. At a pre-match news conference ahead of the match against Indonesia All Stars in Jakarta on Friday, Mings said a pressure-free training environment makes children more likely to stay involved, make sacrifices and improve.
He said that once a love of football grows, the next step is to work hard, dare to dream and show greater dedication. Mings also stressed the importance of waiting for the right opportunity at the right time, along with a bit of luck.
The 33-year-old now plays for Aston Villa and has made 209 appearances in all competitions. He also has 18 caps for England since making his debut in October 2019 against Bulgaria.
