Two 19-year-old hikers missing on Semeru, SAR combs summit route
The second-day search was split across Ranu Kumbolo, Ayak-ayak, Kalimati and the summit area with about 50 personnel.
A joint SAR team continued the search on Sunday for two 19-year-old hikers missing in the Gunung Semeru area of Lumajang, East Java, on the second day of the operation. The hikers were identified as BKW, a resident of Sidoarjo, and MWF, a resident of Surabaya. They set out for Semeru on Oct. 31 and lost contact on Nov. 2 at around 21.00 WIB. The Banyuwangi SAR office received the report on Saturday afternoon and deployed personnel from the Jember SAR Post and the Banyuwangi SAR office. The search was divided into several sectors, from the Ranu Pani hiking gate to Ranu Kumbolo, then through Ayak-ayak to Kalimati, before being continued toward the summit area. Officers earlier found the rented motorcycle used by the victims in a farmer's field near the hiking route. The two are suspected of hiking without official permission.
