TVRI Papua Barat presenter Yanto Idorway found dead after drifting away
His body was found by residents 10 meters from where he fell, three days after the official SAR operation ended.
The body of TVRI Papua Barat presenter Yanto Idorway was found in the Memti River, Pegunungan Arfak Regency, Papua Barat, on Monday (27/7), after nine days of searching. A joint SAR team then evacuated the body, which was found at about 11:05 WIT, around 10 meters from the point where he was reported to have fallen and been swept away by the current on 18 July.
Yanto was swept away in the Memti Waterfall area, Sisrang Village, while visiting with two companions. As he tried to cross the river, he slipped and was carried off by the current. His two companions tried to help, but he was not found and was later reported to police.
The search was hampered by rapidly changing weather, thick fog, cold temperatures, strong currents, and large, slippery rocks. According to Polda Papua Barat, the search continued after the seven-day SAR operation was closed on 24 July.
