Tunisia fires Sabri Lamouchi after 1-5 loss to Sweden

Mondher Kebaier is being lined up as interim coach as Tunisia still has matches against Japan and the Netherlands.

The Tunisia Football Federation fired coach Sabri Lamouchi in the middle of the 2026 World Cup after his team suffered a 1-5 rout by Sweden in its opening Group F match. The federation said the process of appointing Mondher Kebaier as interim coach was under way. Lamouchi was only appointed in January 2026, but his position had already come under pressure after Tunisia also lost 0-5 to Belgium in a pre-tournament friendly in Brussels. Tunisia still faces Japan on 21 June and the Netherlands in its final group match. Lamouchi, a 54-year-old French coach, previously managed Pantai Gading at the 2014 World Cup but failed to take the team beyond the group stage.
