What's next: Practice and qualifying are set for Aug. 22, with the Freedom 250 Grand Prix scheduled for Aug. 23.
President Donald Trump is set to take a ceremonial lap in his armored limousine and wave the green flag at an IndyCar race on the streets of Washington this weekend. The Freedom 250 Grand Prix will send 25 drivers over 147 laps past the U.S. Capitol and Smithsonian museums at speeds reaching 185 mph. Organizers have shut down major roads for days and welded down more than 200 manhole covers to prepare the temporary circuit. Practice and qualifying are on Aug. 22, followed by the race on Aug. 23. The event, managed by IndyCar organizers, comes as Trump closes out festivities tied to the 250th anniversary of American independence.
